Off the Shelf

Being a caregiver is like doing a dance throughout the day

Throughout your space
Choreographed by alternatives

Your loved one undressed themselves for dinner at six
Not during shower time when they refused to assist
And it meant so much to you then :)

Flexibility is the motive word

Pushed on because we think we can do it
A container of pride  imbibed
From a flask on a shelf
within us
Until we rest and let the dance continue
without us

Refreshing, recharging
Drinking grace by the cask

Living for two people is greater than the sum of its parts

We forfeit unless we live like our loved one’s a patient
Not a friend, a father or beloved partner in creation
No...

Another dancer may take the floor wearing our number
Will they treat our loved one well?
As well as we do
With our intuition?

But that won’t happen because we’ve made it our...

(...swig...)

…mission.

ps I find myself planning everything,
     because love plans good things...
